Rolls and bags of Martin Van Buren Presidential dollar coins were to go on sale Nov. 13. This is the fourth and final design of 2008, the second year of the Presidential coin program.

Rolls containing 25 coins are priced at $35.95 each. Bags containing 250 coins are priced at $319.95 each. Each of these is available from either the Denver or Philadelphia Mints.

The coin was designed by Joel Iskowitz, a U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program master, and executed by Phebe Hemphill, a U.S. Mint sculptor-engraver.

On the standard reverse side is the Statue of Liberty done by Don Everhart.

This is the last Presidential dollar that will carry the “In God We Trust” motto on the edge along with the date, mintmark and “E Pluribus Unum” motto. In 2009 the motto moves to the obverse.

On Dec. 5, the Presidential dollar will be officially released at the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site in his birthplace of Kinderhook, N.Y. A ceremony is planned but no details were available at press time.

The Mint notes that Van Buren was called the “Red Fox of Kinderhook” for his red hair and political acumen.

A $4.95 per order shipping and handling charge will be assessed. To order visit the Mint’s Web site at www.usmint.gov, or telephone (800) USA-MINT.
