Tucson show greets 3,000

Dealers report heavy bourse activity.

More than 3,000 people attended the October Tucson International Coin Show Oct. 28-30. Dealers commented on the busy bourse activity.

“This is the best retail show ever! I could not find time to leave my table. It was busy from the moment I arrived until I was ready to pack up and leave,” said John Christianson from Excelsior Rare Coin of Pasadena, Calif.

Two of Christianson’s notable sales included an uncirculated 1853 $20 Assay coin and a 1907 High Relief Roman numeral date double eagle. Richard Snow, of Eagle Eye Rare Coins in Tucson, reported selling a large amount of collector coins and Civil War tokens.

“My sales exceeded $100,000 on Friday alone,” said Snow. “I sold an 1877 Indian cent graded [by Numismatic Guaranty Corp.] as MS-65 for $16,000 and an 1856 Flying Eagle Professional Coin Grading Service Proof-63 for $22,500,” said Snow. “You bet the market was hot.”

The next Tucson International Coin Show is slated for Jan. 26-28, 2006. Bourse tables are nearly sold out. For more information about the event, contact Tony Tumonis by calling (520) 744-9856, by e-mail at LITH57@aol.com, or by writing to: Box 89792, Tucson, AZ 85753.
