The United States Mint continued its recent pattern of giving the third America the Beautiful quarter design in each year the highest mintage.
Output in 2016 saw the Shawnee National Forest quarter at 307.40 million, the Cumberland Gap at 438.60 million, Harpers Ferry 858.63 million, Theodore Roosevelt 454.80 million and Fort Moultrie 136.2 million.
These totals combine the Denver and Philadelphia outputs. Production of Fort Moultrie quarters in December will likely increase the total, but not by enough to eliminate the third issue advantage.
This pattern was first established with the 2014 quarter issues.
In 2013 the first design was by far and away the highest mintage while in 2011 and 2012 it was the final design of the year. In 2010 the mintage totals of each design were virtually identical.
