The Elongated Collectors (TEC) are getting ready for this year’s World’s Fair of Money, to be held in Philadelphia on Aug. 14-18 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Our table this year is No. 554 next to the Kid’s Zone but may move into the Zone depending on circumstances. We will also be a Treasure Trivia stop.
Our meetings are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 17, in Room 120C, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. As we do every year, two coin designs for the convention have been prepared, and all visitors to the table will get a free example of each. An elongating machine with these designs and two other special designs will be available on site for whoever wants to try their hand at rolling their own coins. The two designs are a vertical TEC theme and a horizontal ANA theme. The TEC design features the Liberty Bell, the Philadelphia skyline and the TEC owl, and the ANA design features the Lamp of Knowledge and a Fugio Cent.
Each of these designs will be available in six-coin sets. The TEC badge on a suspender ribbon will have a separate design and is suitable for wearing during the show with the enameled badge rolled on a 1776-1976 Bicentennial quarter and the regular badge on a Pennsylvania quarter. Pre-orders for these badges and sets are open now at the TEC store, on the web at http://tecnews.org/store/, with delivery at the show.
Three other 2018 designs will also be available: a memorial salute to Eric P. Newman, another memorial to Edward C. Rochette, and a special souvenir created for this year’s 50th ANA Summer Seminar. Each of these coins will be available in four-coin sets at the TEC Store and at the convention.
TEC is dedicated to the elongated coin. Its website is http://tecnews.org/ or on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/491018311250248/). Visitors are invited to join the club while learning about the “funnest part of numismatics.”
