James Kofalt of Wilton, N.H., is the grand prize winner of the Krugerrand Safari Sweepstakes, a joint promotion from Krause Publications and the South African Mint.
His prize is a half-ounce Krugerrand. It is made of 22-carat gold, weighs 16.965 grams, and measures 27 mm in diameter. This coin is valued at about $525.
First prize went to Randy Nimon of Pueblo, Colo. He won a white rhinoceros coin from the Mint’s Natura series, a gold coin weighing 7.777 grams and measuring 22 mm. It retails for about $300.
Ronald Kurz of Ogdensburg, N.Y., won second prize, an R2 crown-sized sterling silver coin from the Mint’s Maritime History of South Africa series, weighing 33.626 grams and measuring 38.725 mm, carrying a value of about $60.
