Barry Stuppler announced Jan. 4 his candidacy for ANA president.

Barry S. Stuppler, a member of the American Numismatic Association board of governors since 2000 and current vice president, announced Jan. 4, 2007, his candidacy for ANA president in the 2007 election.

?My 40 plus years of actively being involved in numismatics and my seven years on the board of governors of the ANA have prepared me to lead the association for the next two years,? said Stuppler.

According to Stuppler, his top priorities if elected are to increase membership confidence in the decisions made by the board and administrative staff; provide more transparency regarding board activities, actions and committees; balance the budget while restoring the endowment; grow revenue from sponsorships, endorsements and product merchandising and implement an effective ANA member-club network.

He also said he wants to expand the numismatic education programs for teachers and members; enhance ANA collector awareness programs; expand the ANA museum, merchandising and seminars nationally; increase public awareness of the annual National Coin Week program and improve the ANA Web site and bring it into school systems.

Stuppler has been a numismatist since 1959. He has been a life member of the ANA, Florida United Numismatists and Central States Numismatic Society for more than 20 years.

He is the founder and current member of the Industry Council for Tangible Assets board of directors and a member of the Professional Numismatists Guild. He is also the president of the California Coin and Bullion Merchants Association.
