California Gold Rush-era enthusiasts will take special delight in the exhibits at the June 1-3 Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo.
Gold bars from the 1857 wreck of the S.S. Central America and an 1850 Baldwin & Co. ?Horseman? $10, along with other gold coins, will be featured in a multi-million dollar educational display of Gold Rush-era treasures.
Included in the exhibit will be examples of antique tools used in hand-engraving coin dies.
The three-day event is open to the public and will take place at the Long Beach, Calif., Convention Center, 100 S. Pine Ave.
Presented by Monaco Financial of Newport Beach, the Gold Rush exhibit includes the California Horseman, made in 1850 by San Francisco jeweler Baldwin & Co. Graded NGC MS-65, it shows a man with a lasso on horseback.
Other exhibits include the display of the finest known set of Pan-Pac commemoratives with its historical documents, presented by Rare Coin Whole-salers of Dana Point, Calif., and specimens from the Peacock Hoard. The two finest known Mint State sets of Eisenhower dollars will also be displayed.
Among nearly a dozen educational events at Long Beach will be a seminar with tips about online buying and selling of collectibles. The seminar will be conducted by eBay at noon, June 2.
A children?s treasure hunt will be held June 3, and a gold coin door prize will be given away each day.
Heritage Auction Galleries is the official auctioneer and George F. Kolbe Fine Numismatic Books of Crestline, Calif., will conduct three auctions of books and manuscripts.
A total of nearly 2,000 dealers is expected. Many will provide free, informal appraisals for the public and will be buying and selling rare coins, paper currency and other items.
Public hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for June 1-2, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 3. The show is closed on Sunday.
Admission is $6, good for all three days. For coin or stamp club members, admission is $4 for those who display a valid membership card. Admission is $3 for seniors 65 and older and free for children ages seven and younger.
