Start at PCGS booth at ANA

Next week the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money will be held in Anaheim, Calif.

In addition to attending meetings, catching up with old friends, covering awards ceremonies and generally just seeing how busy commercial activity is, I will be looking around to see how fertile the ground is for collectors of souvenirs.

I have been alerted by the Professional Coin Grading Service that attendees should watch for its promotional items and giveaways to mark the third-party grading service’s 30th anniversary.

Three decades is a long time to survive in the very competitive numismatic grading business.

A 30th anniversary medal will be given to those who submit 25 or more coins for grading. It will come in a PCGS slab with the firm’s old green label.

PCGS hats will go to all submitters of coins.

A freebie item to anyone who simply walks up to the table will be copies of a poster called the “Periodic Table of U.S. Coins.” The poster features photographs of virtually all U.S. coins.

Those who want a poster but who will not be at the show currently have to pay $20 to get one on Amazon, so obviously stopping by the PCGS booth is worthwhile.

Also at the booth will be displays of two PCGS Registry Sets. The two award-winning sets are Winged Liberty’s Color of Money “Fireball Rainbow” Lincoln Collection and the Legend Collection of Liberty Seated Dollars.

Those looking at the display can pick up free educational brochures relating to each set.

I am sure there will be other giveaways at the ANA, but with this advance word, collectors who enjoy convention giveaways definitely need to put visiting the PCGS table in their plans.

“And that’s just the tip of the iceberg; we have more in store,” said PCGS President Don Willis.

I wonder what that means?

If you want to find out, go to the PCGS table in Anaheim during the Aug. 9-13 convention.

Because supplies are limited and could run out, the sooner you visit the PCGS booth the more likely you are to pick up a souvenir.

I know I plan to stop by the PCGS booth as soon as I can in order to offer my congratulations on 30 years in the business.

Perhaps I will run into you there.
