Stack’s Auctions will present the Bob Entlich Collection of Standing Liberty quarters at its Baltimore auction March 23-25.
Leading the auction is a superb gem 1927-S Standing Liberty quarter full head certified MS-66 by Professional Coin Grading Services. It is tied with one other for highest graded honors. From the Bob Entlich Collection, it is the key condition rarity of the Standing Liberty quarter series, on par with the 1918/7-S quarter, according to Stack’s catalogers. The piece has been off the market for many years.
This nearly pristine specimen is one of only 22 examples of the key mintmark issue to be certified by PCGS as having full head details, of which only two have been graded MS-66, with none finer in the designation.
The obverse of the Entlich specimen has a light halo of golden russet, according to the catalogers.
Other quality Standing Liberty quarters from the Entlich collection will cross the block, including all the other key dates (1916, 1918/7-S, and more).
Also offered will be U.S. rarities, a major offering of U.S. currency including over 300 bank note proofs, a significant collection of New York paper money, and important federal currency featuring a unique sheet of Virginia large size nationals, plus interesting medals to round out the sale.
The auction will be held in Baltimore from March 23-25, 2009 at the Pier 5 Hotel. Lot viewing starts on Sunday, March 22 so plan accordingly.
