The Stack family numismatic library will go on the auction block in January in a public sale conducted by George Frederick Kolbe/Fine Numismatic Books.

The library has been assembled over seven decades by the New York numismatic firm founded by brothers Morton and Joseph and carried on by Norman, Benjamin, Harvey, Susan and Lawrence Stack. It is the finest comprehensive working library on numismatics ever formed in the United States, according to Kolbe.

Key works from the library will be sold at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City in conjunction with the New York International Numismatic Convention this coming January. The illustrated catalog will be arranged in two parts: rare and classic works on American coins, medals and tokens; and key works on ancient, medieval, and modern numismatics.

American highlights include Stack’s own complete bound set of its auction sale catalogs; a photographic record of the collection of $2.50, $5 and $10 U.S. gold coins from the Colonel E.H.R. Green collection; inventories of the Louis Eliasberg collection; and classic works on large cents from the library of collector Henry Hines.

Copies of the catalog can be reserved by sending $35 to George Frederick Kolbe, P.O. Drawer 3100, Crestline, CA 92325. It will also be accessible for free several weeks before the sale at the firm’s Web site, www.numislit.com.
