SoCal show set for December

More than 200 U.S. and world coin and currency dealers will attend the SoCal Coin and Currency show Dec. 16-18 at the Ontario, Calif., Convention Center.

More than 200 U.S. and world coin and currency dealers will attend the SoCal Coin and Currency show Dec. 16-18 at the Ontario, Calif., Convention Center.

Show organizers expect visitor attendance is to be up at this show. A big draw is the Kid’s Korner that sponsors the Boy Scout Merit Badge Workshop and mini coin classes for children ages 6 to 12. Classes are taught by Patty Finner, former vice president of the American Numismatic Association. To pre-register for the workshop, call (715) 252-2003.

Carson City silver dollar enthusiasts can meet Selby Ungar, co-author of Carson City Morgan Dollars, Featuring the Coins of the GSA Hoard.

Among the guest speakers will be Garret Burke, California state quarter designer, and Cynthia Mohon, co-author of The Complete Guide to Shield and Liberty Head Nickels.

Free tables are available for coin clubs to recruit new members and display club exhibits.

“Over 100 people took club meeting info at the June SoCal show,” said Kevin Akin, past president of the San Bernardino Coin Club. “We were able to gain new members because of the free table offered by the show promoters.”

Dealer table fees start at $295.

Public hours are 2 to 7 p.m. Dec. 16, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 17 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 18. Dealer set-up hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 16.

General show admission is $2. Early Bird admission costs $25.
