Sunshine Minting, primary supplier of silver blanks to the U.S. Mint, has produced “Tiger” bars of 99.9 percent pure silver in weights of 1, 10 and 100 troy ounces.

Created to mark 2010 as the Chinese Year of the Tiger, the bars are produced in prooflike BU quality.

“The Tiger design is timeless,” according to Panda America, official distributor of the new Sunshine Tiger silver bars. “In Chinese tradition, the tiger carries the virtues of bravery, courage and sternness. Tiger paintings are found in many Chinese homes – with the tiger facing the entrance – in the belief that the image of the tiger carried the potential to drive away demons and protect the house from any sort of evil.”

The 1 troy ounce silver Tiger bar measures 28mm by 50mm by 3mm thick in a clear sealed holder, the 10 troy ounce silver bar is 50mm by 90mm by 7mm thick in a clear sealed holder, and the 100 troy ounce silver bar is 78mm by 133mm by 29mm thick.

The bars contain 100 percent American silver. Sunshine Minting is located in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, a region that has produced more silver than any other mining district in the United States – about 1.2 billion ounces since 1884.
