Shepherd put on administrative leave

Larry Shepherd, executive director of the American Numismatic Association, has been placed on 30-day administrative leave by the ANA board of governors.

New ANA President Tom Hallenbeck telephoned me at noon today. He said this action was taken Saturday morning, Aug. 20, at an executive session of the board.

Other than to say it was part of an organizational review process, Hallenbeck said, “I can’t talk about any personnel issues.

“This is not what I wanted when I first got on the board. It is not a good way to start a presidency,” he said.

He said he expected the ANA to release a brief formal statement within 24 hours after the board has had a chance to review it.

Hallenbeck characterized the situation as fluid and that prevents him from sharing more information at this time.
