The U.S. Mint has extended the order deadline for the San Francisco Old Mint commemorative gold and silver coins by two weeks, from Dec. 1 to 5 p.m. Eastern Time Dec. 15.
The coins have only been on sale since the middle of August and some supporters of the Old San Francisco Mint renovation and Gold Rush museum project had requested an extension. They hope to benefit by as much at $8.5 million in surcharge income from a sellout of the coins. Sales at this point are little more than halfway to that goal.
The Mint also announced it would sell the commemorative coins in bulk Dec. 1-20 to authorized dealers participating in the Mint?s bulk coin program.
Bulk buyers who order a minimum of 25 gold $5 coins can purchase the proof version for $230 in standard packaging, or $215 for unpackaged coins. The uncirculated $5 is priced at $220 packaged and $205 unpackaged.
Bulk buyers of 100 or more silver dollars may purchase the proofs packaged for $35 each, or $31 each for unpackaged coins. The uncirculated coins are priced at $33 and $29, respectively.
All of the coins have an ?S? mintmark.
Collectors who wish to order the commemoratives individually until deadline may do so from the Mint Web site at www.usmint.gov, or by telephone, (800) USA-MINT.
