A scout’s helping hand is favored by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee for the obverse design of a commemorative coin honoring the Boy Scouts of America.
The committee, which met June 29 in Colorado Springs, Colo., listened to comments from the audience concerning uniforms, use of anniversary slogans and design favorites before selecting a design depicting a Boy Scout of 100 years ago offering his hand during a mountain climb to a modern scout.
The CCAC did ask that the design show proper uniforms and improve on the body positioning in the complicated juxtaposition of figures.
The reverse design design was selected following comments from the audience about the incorrect use or placement of the “Be Prepared” motto on some of the other designs.
Approximately 65 people attended the meeting, held in conjunction with the American Numismatic Association Summer Seminar. CCAC Chairman Mitch Sanders reviewed the the history, duties and procedures of the CCAC.
CCAC members attending were Dan Scarinci, Gary Marks, Doreen Bolger, Michael Brown, Richard Meier, John Alexander and Roger Burdette.
