The third annual Countryside, Ill., Holiday Coin Show, held Dec. 13-14, was a sold-out event.
Ninety-three dealer tables filled the Park Place hall. Brisk business was reported both days, organizers reported.
A major attraction for Boy Scouts and young collectors was a Coin Collecting Merit Badge Clinic lead by Patti Finner, nationally certified scout instructor, on Dec. 13. It was attended by 175 scouts, plus scoutmasters and parents.
The event is believed to be the largest such coin collecting clinic ever hosted. It was the third scout clinic presented by Finner at the Chicago-suburb show.
The majority of the scouts received their coin merit badges, and all went home with packets of coins, prizes, books and other numismatic publications – all donated by a supportive dealer community.
The two-day Holiday Show was the final show of the year for this monthly event. Single-day shows will be held on every second Sunday in 2009. Another two-day holiday event is scheduled for Dec. 12-13, 2009
