In a Scotsman Auction Co. sale that realized nearly $1.5 million, a 1915-S $50 Pan-Pacific round gold commemorative topped all coin lots.
Certified as MS-61 by Numismatic Guaranty Corp., the piece brought in $48,300 at Scotsman?s Midwest Winter Sale, Feb. 17.
Both the auction total and the sales price of the Pan-Pacific specimen included the 15 percent buyer?s fee.
The sale was held in St. Louis at the St. Louis Airport Marriott and included 1,286 lots.
Leading the way for Scotsman was a 1934 $10,000 Chicago District Federal Reserve Note, graded Choice Crisp Uncirculated-63 by Paper Money Guaranty, that fetched $66,700.
Other highlights included a 1794 Flowing Hair half dollar, O-101, graded Fine-15 by the cataloger, that realized $14,375.
Among the other coin lots in the auction, an 1877 proof-only Issue $20 piece, graded Proof-64 by Professional Coin Grading Service, fetched $8,625, while a 1907 High Relief Wire Rim Saint-Gaudens double eagle, graded AU-58 by NGC, realized $10,350.
