Scotsman realizes $1.4 million

Expected to bring in approximately $13,000, a 1907 high-relief Roman numeral Saint-Gaudens double eagle, certified MS-62 by Professional Coin Grading Service, actually hammered for $23,500 at the Collectors’ Auction 2005 sale.

Held Oct. 20-21 in association with the fourth annual Silver Dollar & Rare Coin Exposition in St. Charles, Mo., the Scotsman auction offered 1,611 lots that were sold for $1.4 million, including the 15 percent buyer’s premiums.
A 1795 Draped Bust eagle with 13 leaves, graded AU-53 by Numismatic Guaranty Corp., realized $35,750, without the buyer’s premium.
