As a coin finish, it would appear that satin sells.

According to the U.S. Mint, sales of the 2005 U.S. Mint Uncirculated Set are up more than 30 percent over 2004 to date. And that’s creating shipping problems for the Mint.

As of Sept. 30, the Mint had shipped 727,800 uncirculated sets.

The U.S. Mint Web site, www.usmint.gov, has informed customers ordering the 2005 uncirculated coin set that it is on backorder and has advised them to allow six to eight weeks for delivery from the time they place their order.

While expressing regret for the delays, the Mint notes that not all customers will need to wait eight weeks to receive their sets, as coin orders are filled on a first-in, first-out basis.

According to the Mint, this is a rolling target based upon fluctuations in production schedules.

The 2005 uncirculated coin set is the first in U.S. Mint history to have such a finish.
