San Francisco commem order cutoff nears

While much attention and expenditure is being focused on the 2006-W uncirculated American Eagles being sold directly to collectors, the deadline for placing orders for the San Francisco Old Mint commemoratives is rapidly approaching.

While much attention and expenditure is being focused on the 2006-W uncirculated American Eagles being sold directly to collectors, the deadline for placing orders for the San Francisco Old Mint commemoratives is rapidly approaching.

The Mint said Nov. 7 that the cutoff date for commemorative orders is Dec. 1. If you have been on the fence, decision time is just about upon us. An announcement from the Mint about the reported loose capsules is expected just as this issue goes to press.

Interestingly, sales totals for two of the four commemoratives actually fell as Mint accounting did its magic. Shipments are about to begin for the silver dollars.

As the end of the year approaches, we are expecting a last call to go out to the Mint?s dealer distribution network for the regular American Eagle bullion coins. However, as you already know, the ?W? mintmarked special collector versions being sold individually directly to collectors will continue selling after Jan. 1. Also selling past Jan. 1 will be the proof Buffalo coin. It likely will be available until the 2007 version goes on sale because it sure doesn?t look like it will reach its sellout limit of 300,000.
