More than 60 people came out to attend California State Numismatic Association?s 40th annual educational symposium March 15 in San Diego.
Presenters for the event were Barbara J. Gregory, editor of The Numismatist; Clifford L. Mishler, current American Numismatic Association governor; Jim Hughes, associate curator for the National Numismatic Collection with the Smithsonian Institution; and Michael S. Turrini, California-based coin activist.

Gregory described the history behind producing ANA?s publication, The Numismatist. Mishler detailed the development of Krause Publications? Standard Catalog of World Coins. Hughes outlined his experience working for the Smithsonian for the past 30 years, and Turrini highlighted the 1939-1940 Golden Gate International Exposition.

?The speakers were simply outstanding,? said James W. Hunt, symposium coordinator and CSNA director of education. ?I am confident all who were there learned something new.?

In addition to the presentations, gifts were given to attending Young Numismatists and drawings were held for prizes donated by Krause Publications.

The next symposium, sponsored by the Vallejo Numismatic Society, is scheduled for Oct. 25 in Vallejo, Calif. For more information, visit, e-mail, or write to P.O. Box 4104, Vallejo, CA 94590-0410.
