The 100th anniversary of the James Earle Fraser Buffalo nickel design will be celebrated Aug. 8 by the issuance of a reverse proof Buffalo one-ounce gold coin.
There will be no mintage or order limits. Price has not yet been determined because of fluctuating bullion prices, however a regular proof was $1,640 as this story was written.
A reverse proof differs from a regular proof in that the frosting is applied to the fields rather than the design elements and the mirror-like surface is on the design elements rather than on the empty fields on a regular proof.
