Veteran professional numismatist Scott Reiter has been named executive director of consignments at Bowers and Merena Auctions in Irvine, Calif.
?During the last decade, Scott has consistently traveled throughout the United States to work closely with collectors, heirs, executors and dealers on over $100 million worth of auction consignments and direct purchases,? said Pen Herring, chief operating officer of Bowers. ?His extensive knowledge of the rare coin market is a key to developing specific strategies and marketing opportunities for consignors to maximize their returns.?
Reiter has been a collector, dealer and auction consignment director for nearly 40 years.
?My passion for the hobby began when I was eight years old and my grandfather gave me a small box of fascinating U.S. and foreign coins,? he said. ?I went from a box of coins to founding a coin club in junior high school to opening a coin store while still a sophomore in college at Cal State in Northridge in 1978.?
Reiter, his wife, Beatriz, and their two daughters, Amanda, 14, and Avery, 4, live in Orange County Calif.
In addition to conducting the official auction of this year?s American Numismatic Association World?s Fair of Money in Denver, Bowers and Merena will hold two more public sales between now and November: the official auction of the ANA show in Las Vegas, Nev., Oct. 25-27, and the official auction of the Baltimore, Md., Coin and Currency Convention, Nov. 9-11.
