Members of New Jersey’s Ocean County Coin Club had a surprise visit by Dan Gosling, newly elected president of the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association, at its Oct. 15 meeting.

Gosling and his wife, Judi, were in New York City to attend a seminar at the American Numismatic Society. While he was in the area, Gosling pre-planned to visit the author of Silver and Nickel Dollars of Canada, a book written more than 30 years ago by Steve Dushnick, who owns a jewelry store in Brick Township, N.J.

The Goslings met Jim Majoros, outgoing OCCC president, in Brick and had the opportunity to visit with Dushnick.

Gosling, who is also editor of the Canadian Numismatic Journal, conducted an interview with Dushnick. Afterward, the group went to the club meeting in Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.

Gosling gave the dozen YNs in attendance a talk about Canada’s “Koin Kids” programs and continued with a presentation to the regular membership, answering a number of questions along the way.

A “Welcome Dan and Judi” cake was served, and Majoros presented them with a lamp of learning trophy and a certificate that reads, “We take great pride in opening up our club to numismatic visitors from Canada as our relationship in the hobby is not just local, but world-wide.”

“This was a fantastic evening for our members,” said Dennis Berube, current club president.
