Push to start: Colorado governor strikes state quarter

Gov. Bill Owens struck a Colorado quarter at the Denver Mint as preparations are made for June 14 release of the new quarter.

Colorado's Gov. Bill Owens struck a state quarter May 24 at the Denver Mint to launch his state's entry in the 50 states series.

Actual debut of the new coin was to occur June 14 with a special event on the steps of the state Capitol, where the governor will be joined by Mint Deputy Director David Lebryck.
