The full 10,000 mintage of the 2010 one ounce platinum proof American Eagle coin sold out in just over one week after it first went on sale Aug. 12.

With an issue price of $1,792 apiece, buyers ponied up almost $18 million to acquire this year’s design, which had the theme of “To Establish Justice.”

The Mint’s Aug. 22 weekly statistical report showed all of the coins sold, though the Mint’s website was still taking stand-by orders as late as Aug. 23. These orders will be honored only if problems develop with orders placed earlier.

This year’s sales total was 2,000 coins higher than last year’s 8,000, which was the first year of the present Preamble Series of the Constitution.

There will be four more coins 2011-2014 in this annual series.
