Noted F+W-Krause error-variety coin columnist Ken Potter is offering free error-variety coin examination services during the 43rd Suburban Detroit Coin Show, to be held Thursday-Saturday, Aug. 24-26.
He will have a display of error coins properly identified to help interested collectors learn more about them, or to get a peek at some of the oddest coins to escape the U.S., Canadian and other foreign mints. Both macro- and microphotography services will also be available at reasonable cost. Application forms for error club memberships will be made available.
Potter asks persons who intend to bring coins for an opinion to limit themselves to five coins per person.
?In the past, when we offered examination services at this show, we had some persons bring up to several double-row boxes, containing hundreds of suspected error coins for an opinion,? he said. ?We may be able to fudge a bit on the five-coin rule, but we cannot render opinions on boxes containing hundreds of coins. In this case, we will have several books available for sale that we will recommend for collectors who need to learn more about their coins.?
The Suburban Detroit Coin Show is held at the Holiday Inn, located on Laurel Park Drive, NE corner of I-275 and 6 Mile Road in Livonia, Mich. The show will be open to the public from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The feature attraction of this show is the wide variety of dealers, two-thirds from outside the metro area. This offers an opportunity for local dealers and collectors to pick through fresh inventories from more than 75 bourse tables.
Admission is free. Dealer bourse rental information is available from Chuck Sharpe at (248) 345-8555, or chaztmi@aol.com.
