The Professional Numismatists Guild announced Feb. 12 that it is seeking nominations for its 2008 awards.
?We are asking collectors and dealers to nominate candidates in a half dozen award categories to formally recognize outstanding achievements in various areas of the hobby and profession,? said Robert Brueggeman, PNG executive director.
The awards will be announced July 29 at the annual PNG Day in Baltimore, Md., said President Gary Adkins.
Nominations should be made directly to the appropriate award category chairman. The categories and chairmen follow.
The Abe Kosoff Founders Award is presented to a PNG member-dealer who has made a significant contribution to PNG or to the numismatic fraternity in general during the past year. Nominations may be directed by e-mail to Paul Montgomery at PMont487@aol.com.
The Art Kagin Ambassador Award is given to a collector or dealer who provided distinguished service as an advocate of numismatic goodwill. Nominations may be sent to Jonathan Kern at jon@jkerncoins.com.
Significant Contribution Award is presented to those who have made exceptional, beneficial efforts on behalf of PNG and the profession, and added to the hobby. Nominations may be sent to Jeff Bernberg at jbernberg@rarcoa.com.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to a numismatist for his/her devotion to numismatics and contribution to the hobby or profession. Nominations may be sent to Jeff Garrett at coinman4u@aol.com.
The Sol Kaplan Award is presented to someone who has attempted to rid the profession of fraud and thievery. It is given jointly by PNG and the Lewis M. Reagan Foundation. Nominations may be sent to Bob Rhue at rrhue@qwest.net.
The Robert Friedberg Award is presented to an author in recognition for an outstanding book or other literature. It is only given when there is deemed to be worthy recipients. Books nominated for this year?s award must be received no later than April 25 by Committee Chairman Rick Ponterio at 1818 Robinson Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.
