Idaho collector Oded Paz is running for a seat on the 2015 American Numismatic Association board of governors.
“My main goal is bringing the ANA closer to the individual collector, local coin clubs and the smaller coin dealers around the nation.
“We need to refocus on those that cannot afford to attend major ANA conventions, yet are still avid numismatic collectors and local dealers,” he said.
Paz also believes that educating youth should be on the top of the ANA’s list of priorities to prevent numismatics from shrinking.
Paz has a business background that emphasizes operations, marketing and sales.
Paz has worked hard at the grass-roots level ever since he entered the field in 2001 when he joined a club in Southern California.
He served as president of the California Association of Token collectors and membership grew during his term.
Paz founded the pop-out collectors club and assisted the late Bob Stump in writing a book on pop-out coins
He served as The Elongated Collectors vice president for two terms, 2005-2009. He was elected TEC president in 2011.
Paz became an ANA District Representative in 2004. A few years later, he was appointed as the assistant national coordinator.
In 2011-2013 he was named national coordinator. Paz’ vision is clubs are the backbone of the ANA, he said.
Also in 2011 he was given the Numismatic News Numismatic Ambassador Award.
In 2009, Paz moved to southeast Idaho, establishing a new career where he became an active member of the Eagle Rock Numismatic Association. He has been busy with the club’s Young Numismatist Program for the last three years, and he was elected president in 2014.
He is a speaker as well as an award-winning exhibitor. In 2009 he won a People’s Choice Award for an elongated exhibit at the Los Angeles ANA convention.
Paz established three Yahoo discussion groups for the ANA – ANA-DRP, ANA-MRC and ANA Exhibitors & Judges. He is the current moderator of all three.
