Overseeing the operations of the U.S. Mint from his House of Representatives subcommittee chairmanship may not be enough for Rep. Ron Paul.
He announced the formation of an exploratory presidential committee April 26 for the 2012 election.
Making his national reputation as someone who wants to end the Federal Reserve, or at the very least subject it to a complete audit, Paul ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.
The 75-year-old is also well know for his support for the gold standard and legalizing gold ownership back in 1974, when an ownership ban in place since 1933 was lifted.
He was also a Libertarian Party presidential candidate in 1988.
