After nearly five years as a member of the American Numismatic Association board of governors, Walter Ostromecki has announced his candidacy for ANA vice president for the 2011-2013 term.
“My commitment is to increase and further the educational outreach mission as noted in ANA bylaws at Summer Seminar, online through more website basic and detailed study collector programs and during our thrice yearly conventions,” said Ostromecki.
He has also proposed to revamp the association’s YN outreach programs by obtaining input from its approximately 550 junior members.
Among his other priorities are revitalizing the National Representative Program, embarking on a more proactive membership retention program and developing an outreach strategy aimed at hobbyists in the 25-39 age group.
Ostromecki is a retired public school teacher, principal and a Los Angeles district administrator of 38 years. He is also a hobby advocate who conducts youth- and family-oriented outreach programs and activities at coin shows throughout the Western U.S. He is a certified Boy Scout Coin Collecting Merit Badge Counselor.
He has been a numismatic author since 1978 and served as president of 14 coin clubs.
A member since 1975, Ostromecki has been awarded 10 ANA awards. He has received honors from more than 35 numismatic groups throughout the West and has been a Numismatic Ambassador since 1988.
