If you want to order products from the U.S. Mint that contain 2004 or 2005 nickels, you’d better get them in fast.
The Mint is encouraging customers to place orders for such products this month – no later than Dec. 1 – for guaranteed delivery.
The authorizing legislation for the Westward Journey Nickel Series requires that the reverse of any nickel issued after Dec. 31, 2005, shall bear an image of Thomas Jefferson’s home of Monticello.
Therefore, the 2004 Peace Medal and Keelboat nickels and the 2005 American Bison and Ocean in View nickels may not be sent to customers after Dec. 31.
Orders will be taken through Dec. 25, although the Mint cannot guarantee fulfillment of orders that are received after Dec. 1. The following 16 products, which include Westward Journey Nickel Series coins, will be affected: the 2005 United States Mint Proof Set; the 2005 United States Mint Silver Proof Set; the 2005 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set; the 2005 Westward Journey Nickel Series Coin Set; the Westward Journey Nickel Series Coin and Die Set - American Bison “D”; the Westward Journey Nickel Series Coin and Die Set –Ocean in View “P” and “D”; the Westward Journey Nickel Series Ocean in View Design “P” and “D” 500-coin bags; the Westward Journey Nickel Series Ocean in View Design “P” and “D” 1,000-coin bags; the Westward Journey Nickel Series Ocean in View Design two-roll set; the 2004 Westward Journey Nickel Series Official First Day Coin Cover Peace Medal Design; and the 2004 Westward Journey Nickel Series Official First Day Coin Cover – Keelboat, American Bison and Ocean in View designs. The Westward Journey Nickel Series Coin and Die Set American Bison “P” is sold out.
