Now you see it, now you don’t is a great way to describe a magic trick.

But when it is used to describe what happened to a potentially popular upcoming offer from the U.S. Mint on its online product schedule, it becomes problematic.

The 225th Anniversary Enhanced Uncirculated Coin Set featuring specially prepared (but not proof) coins with the “S” mintmark previously has been announced to go on sale Aug. 1.

Mintage is limited to 225,000.

So far there is no price revealed nor any order limitation.

It is supposed to be available at the American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of Money in Denver.

But will it?

The date and the offer this morning are no longer on the Mint’s product schedule.

Where did it go?

Has some sort of problem occurred?

A problem could be something little, like a glitch on the website that renders these words moot as soon as I post them.

A problem could be large, such as coin production issues, quality issues, or packaging issues that would prevent the previously announced schedule from being adhered to.

Naturally, I telephoned the Mint to find out what might be occurring.

Keep it in mind that it is summer vacation season.

I proved it this morning.

One voicemail message hasn’t been changed since June.

Another reveals an absence until the ANA convention closes.

A third person is on duty but unable to answer the phone.

If everyone else is on vacation, that third person I tried to reach will be very busy indeed.

It is also Friday.

That can’t help.

I know I will get a return phone call.

Of that I have no doubt.

It is only a matter of time.

I just will not get a response in time to affect what I write in this blog.

What I will be told in this phone call might be information that becomes a big story.

The information might just become a little story.

But because it is a summertime event, it will be a story that we will have to wait a little while longer to find out.

Do I blame the Mint for anything?

Not at all.

It is summer.

It is Friday.

You won’t be able to reach me in the office this afternoon either.

Fortunately, if you are eager to buy an Enhanced Uncirculated Coin Set, you do have time to wait as this is sorted out.

Perhaps today you should go home early too.
