Ocean County Coin Club President Dennis Berube named the group’s Numismatist of the Year and Young Numismatist of the Year in front of a crowd of 50 club members and guests during its Annual Awards Banquet held Oct. 1 in Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.
Bill Morris is Numismatist of the Year and 14-year-old Ryan Hrapsky is YN of the Year.
“Bill Morris accomplished many things for the club this past year,” said Berube. “He handled the registration at both our shows, produced an exonumia listing for the club, updated the constitution and bylaws and brought current the listing of club members and their data.”
Gary Catlin, the club’s YN director said, “Ryan has authored an article for the club newsletter and has participated with a number of show-and-tells at our meetings. In addition, Ryan, an American Numismatic Association member, is applying for the ANA Summer Seminar this coming year.”
Literary Award winners were also announced. Kari Brower was awarded for her articles, “Big Brother” and “My 40 Years in Numismatics.” Zachary Beier won the YN Literary Award for his four articles, “Finally, the 4th Lincoln Cent Design Has Been Selected,” “Princeton Coin Collection – A Must See,” “ANA Summer Seminar, My Best Vacation Yet” and “Nickel + Search = Awesome.”
Award winners were presented with trophies, a club certificate and a 1-ounce silver round.
Jim Majoros, outgoing president and ANA district representative, said that it is individuals like these who keep the club as well as the hobby going in the right direction.
Bill Horton, former ANA president, was on hand for the banquet. He said he enjoyed the evening, especially being present for the announcement of the award winners.
