Hobbyist Jerry Lebo of Logansport, Ind., died Feb. 11, 2017.
Mr. Lebo was named a Numismatic Ambassador in 1997.
He was actively involved with the Indiana State Numismatic Association since 1980, when he was elected as historian-curator. A journalist by trade, he served as editor of the quarterly ISNA News from 1981 to 1995 with the exception of one year when he was ISNA second vice president.
More recently, Mr. Lebo’s numismatic interests had shifted from U.S. type coinage to U.S. paper money, especially Indiana material and fractional currency. He also gained interest in tokens but had ventured only sparingly into this area.
He was elected governor of the American Numismatic Association in 2001 and was appointed chairman of Publications Committee. He served one term and did not seek re-election.
Mr. Lebo was a frequent exhibitor at ISNA conventions, mostly non-competitively. He also judged exhibits at ISNA and Central States Numismatic Society conventions. In his first competitive exhibit – first-issue fractional currency – at the 1993 CSNS spring convention in Chicago, he won third place.
He served as bourse chairman for the ISNA annual convention from 1982 to 1988 and for the Central States spring conventions at Indianapolis in 1988 and 1994.
He has served as president of the Indianapolis Coin Club, formerly its sergeant-at-arms and chairman of its junior program. He occasionally presented programs at schools on behalf of ICC. Due to his service, he was awarded an honorary life membership to the club.
Memorial services were held Feb. 15 in Logansport.
