North Dakota quarter first strike Aug. 2

Ceremonial kick-off of striking a lead-up to full release ceremony later in August.

North Dakota?s lieutenant governor, Jack Dalrymple, will head the official state delegation to strike on Aug. 2 the first state quarter honoring the 39th state at the Denver Mint.

He will be joined by Secretary of State Al Jaeger and Director of Tourism Sara Otte Coleman.

Representing the United States Mint will be Denver Plant Manager Tim Riley.

The quarter depicts two grazing buffalo with a background of rugged buttes and canyons of the North Dakota Badlands.

The official launch ceremony will be held Aug. 30 in Bismarck. A date when rolls and bags of the coins will be sold to collectors was not yet available, though it can be before the official launch ceremony that is scheduled at the end of the month.

The following state quarter scheduled to be struck is South Dakota.
