Newman Portal sets milestones

Newman Numismatic Portal reports a busy month of June for the online numismatic archive.

Len Augsburger, the project coordinator, said “summer is our busy season as students are looking for work and are less stressed than during the school year.”

The project is located at Washington University in St. Louis and employs half a dozen students during the summer months.

Augsburger said content is now close to reaching the 15,000 document milestone and one million pages.

“Our center at the American Numismatic Society (ANS) is equally engaged, and is currently scanning the archival records of the New Netherlands coin firm of New York.

Two pallets of mystery documents arrived at the Internet Archive scanning center at Princeton University in New Jersey.

Augsburger wants to keep hobbyists guessing until he comments further at the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money where he will give a talk at 10 a.m. Aug. 3 about the Newman Portal at the Numismatic Literary Guild symposium.
