New offerings reduce commentary space
This week we have added quite a few new listings, making even less room for commentary.
Remember proliferation? That was 10 years ago when collectors complained there were too many commemoratives to keep up with. The result was disillusioned collectors and congressional action to limit commemorative programs to two per year. In the those political battles, the Mint simply said, ?Don?t look at us. It?s Congress that?s responsible.? Fair enough.
This week we have added quite a few new listings, making even less room for commentary. Virtually all of them are Mint-created items that the Congress did not have to specifically authorize. The proliferation issue is now squarely in the Mint?s hands, or should we say it is the Mint?s fault?
Early sales numbers are now available for the 2006-W mintmarked uncirculated gold, silver and platinum American Eagles. Only the silver version has put in a significant number, though it is early in the availability period. Take a look at the box below.
The Legacy set has gone off sale. The Mint removed order limits Oct. 2 for all of the San Francisco commemoratives, judging that all potential buyers have now had a fair shot at them.
Buffalo proofs rose by 1,000. Bullion Buffalo sales rose by 8,000 coins.
