The Willamette Coin Club of Portland, Ore., and the Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association are the host clubs for the 2009 American Numismatic Association’s Portland National Money Show to be held March 13-15. The Salem Coin Club is honorary host.
The clubs will issue medals to celebrate the event as well as honor the 150th anniversary of the State of Oregon, according to Show Chairman Scott Loos.
“We are excited and honored to present this event and want to have something special planned for Oregon’s 150th anniversary,” said Loos.
Proof medals struck in silver and bronze are limited to 200 sets, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Single medals are also available.
The design is based on the original WCC logo featuring the head of Athena designed by local artist and WCC member John Tofte. It was rendered by engraver Greg Franck-Weiby, who also prepared the reverse featuring a Conestoga wagon on the Oregon Trail.
The 39mm medals were designed by Max Steinmetz of the Northwest Territorial Mint, the firm that struck them.
Medal sets cost $55. The silver medal is $40, and the bronze version is $15. Prices include postage.
