Taking advantage of a generous program sponsored by the Central States Numismatic Society, the Milwaukee Numismatic Society recently completed a donation of 17 numismatic reference books with a retail value of almost $800 to the Franklin, Wis., Public Library.
The donation included a selection of Krause Publications’ Standard Catalogs and other comprehensive reference books. Topics covered in the collection included United States coins, world coins, United States paper money, world bank notes, counterfeits and coin grading.
Racine coin dealer Bill Spencer procured the books for the club. The donation was made possible with support from the Central States Numismatic Society, which has member clubs in Wisconsin and other Midwestern states. It was coordinated by Dr. Leon Saryan, MNS president.
Franklin, a suburb of Milwaukee with a population of 35,000, recently built a spacious new library building.
“In 2010, MNS made a similar donation to the Greenfield Library and before that to Wauwatosa,” said Saryan. “We are pleased to be able to continue and expand this project.”
The MNS says it is interested in identifying similar opportunities to provide numismatic education to the public.
