Is it a coincidence that the week we report that the issue price of the gold Standing Liberty quarter dropped from $485 to $472.50 that the running sales number also fell? Buyers of expensive gold coins know when prices are declining. Some get cold feet. In any case, the sales number came in at 78,464, down 903 from last week’s tally.
Proof silver American Eagles had a good week. Buyers snapped up 24,965. This brings the ongoing tally to 412,459. It would seem this issue is getting a second wind.
Speaking of getting a second wind, sales of 2016 clad proof sets jumped by 12,504 to 407,008. The silver proof set moved ahead by 7,246 to 276,264. It was a good week for them.
Good demand is buoying bullion coin sales. The silver Eagle is almost at the two million mark. The gold one-ounce Eagle is at 51,000. The Eagles are both gaining strength even as prices of metals have dropped since mid-September.
