It now costs just as much to buy a U.S. Mint Uncirculated Coin Set® as it does the U.S. Mint Proof Set®.
Both are $31.95.
For many years, proof sets have been more expensive than mint sets even though they contain far fewer coins.
This year’s proof set, which was released July 22, has 14 coins in it as compared to 28 for the uncirculated set that went on sale July 15.
Face value of the proof set is $6.91 and the face value of the mint set is $13.82.
Proof coins feature an “S” mintmark for San Francisco, while the uncirculated coins were struck at Philadelphia and Denver.
Since 2005 uncirculated coins have a satin finish.
To order visit www.usmint.gov, or telephone (800) USA-MINT. A handling charge of $4.95 is applied to all orders.
