Collectors who have ever wanted to purchase one or more of the recent Danish coins reported in World Coin News, but been unable to find a supplier, can now do so through the new webshop set up by the Royal Danish Mint. The new website, http://royalmint.dk/shop/frontpage.html, became effective on May 27. It offers thematic and commemorative coins along with coin sets and uncirculated bank notes of both Denmark and Faroe Islands.

Among the many items on sale are old uncirculated Danish gold coins. These are the 10 and 20 kroner minted between 1913-1917 in the reign of King Christian X. The coins have been stored in sealed bags since they were struck. Their prices will vary with fluctuations in gold markets.

The 10 kroner is struck on an 18 mm, 4.48 g .900 fine gold flan (4.03 g AGW); the 20 kroner on a 23mm flan of 8.96 g .900 fine gold (AGW 8.06 g). The total mintages between 1913 and 1917 were 500,000 million 10 kroner and 3.7 million 20 kroner.

During World War I the exchange of bank notes for gold was suspended. It was never reintroduced and the gold coins remained unused, stored within the vaults of Danmarks Nationalbank along with 20 kroner coins minted in 1926-1927 and 1930-1931).

Lest any reader be confused, the Royal Danish Mint has been a part of Danmarks Nationalbank since 1975. Hence the Mint and Nationalbank webpages merge seamlessly.
