With online auction sites showing a potential value of $500 for each of the five America the Beautiful 5-ounce silver bullion coins, the Mint process of supplying its authorized purchasers with the 165,000 pieces (33,000 sets) produced in 2010 continues to move slowly forward.

At the Dec. 17 deadline, nine of 11 authorized purchasers said they would take the coins and abide by the Mint’s 10 percent markup, and one five-coin set per household sales rules.

On Dec. 20 the Mint reallocated the 30,000 coins the two authorized purchasers declined to take.

Six of the authorized purchasers received 3,500 coins each as their share of the reallocation and three authorized purchasers received 3,000 coins each.

Tom Jurkowsky, the Mint’s public affairs director, said that authorized purchasers had until Dec. 23 to place their orders for the reallocated coins.
