Six new associate designers are being sought by the U.S. Mint for its Artistic Infusion Program. Acceptance of applications began Sept. 1 and will have rolling cutoff dates of Nov. 9, 2009, March 8, 2010 and July 6, 2010.

Associate designers are paid $2,000 per task order and by contract get an additional $5,000 for each coin or medal design chosen for use.

The Mint says applicants may apply online by submitting five to 10 works from their portfolios, a resume and a statement of intent.

Potential associate designers will have to complete a standard application coin design exercise.

Applicants must be professional artists who are U.S. citizens.

Visit the Web site at www.usmint.gov/artists, for additional application requirements.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for artists representing all types of backgrounds to inspire and educate the entire nation,” said Ed Moy, U.S. Mint director.

Those selected must attend an annual orientation/designer symposium.
