The U.S. Mint has set a maximum mintage of 15,000 for the Abigail Fillmore First Spouse coin.
That’s a drastic reduction from the 40,000 maximum mintages set for each of the first 13 First Spouse coins.
That probably doesn’t matter much because no issue in 2009 sold over 10,000 pieces and the last issue of that year has just crossed the 5,000 mark.
Prices fluctuate week to week with the price of gold bullion, but the proof was expected to be around $729 and the uncirculated version $716 as this issue went to press. The Fillmore coin went on sale March 18.
The breakdown between proof and uncirculated mintage totals depends on how many of each option are ordered. The combined numbers cannot exceed 15,000.
The fourth issue of the year honoring Mary Todd Lincoln will have a maximum mintage of 20,000.
