He is a long-time collector, exhibitor, and hobby volunteer from St. Louis who matured as a hobbyist through the ANA Young Numismatists program.

He joined the ANA immediately upon turning 11 – the minimum age for membership in 1983.

“As a Young Numismatist, I was fortunate to have Larry Gentile Sr. – longtime leader of YN programs on the East Coast – as a mentor. Larry taught me a great deal about numismatics and about giving back to the hobby,” he said.

Lyon became an ANA-certified exhibit judge in 1989 and since 2003 he has served as head chaperone at the ANA Summer Seminar.

Lauding the actions of the past two boards, Lyon said, “It’s now time for the ANA to improve member services, grow membership and take a greater role online.”

His goals are:

• Improving communications to members and member clubs
• Growing membership
“If non-member convention attendees were given a six-month trial membership with their admission charge, I think we could see significant membership gains.”
• Maintaining / improving member services
• Supporting a greater online presence for the ANA

“The Internet has become a part of our daily lives but I don’t believe the ANA’s online presence has kept up. I’d like to see the organization add a National Coin Week award for the best online numismatic presentation – an award for online exhibits.”

Professionally, Lyon has a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Washington University in St. Louis. He currently works as a project manager for Thomson Reuters.

“I work daily to ensure that large scale efforts are completed on time and on budget, the same goals that the ANA has for meeting its objectives.”
