Imagine being handed an MS-65 Saint-Gaudens $20 gold piece worth $2,000 from David Hall for winning the Professional Coin Grading Service grading competition at the Long Beach Coin, Stamp and Collectibles Expo held May 31 to June 2.
That happened to Mike Kittle of Ventura County, Calif.
The prize was graded PCGS Secure Plus MS-65.
Young Numismatists Patrick King, 14, and Ben Mesko, 8, took home MS-65 Morgan silver dollars for winning the YN high school and pre-high school coin grading competition categories.
According to PCGS, each adult participant had 20 minutes to grade 20 U.S. coins of random denominations and dates that were previously certified by PCGS, but without their PCGS grade visible in the holder.
The competition was sponsored by PCGS PhotogradeTM Online, which is part of Collectors Universe.
Collectors Universe President Don Willis joined firm founder Hall in congratulating the winners.
