Last looks at 1913 nickel?

Ten years ago I had the incredible experience of watching the rediscovery of the missing fifth example of the 1913 Liberty Head nickel at the American Numismatic Association convention in Baltimore.

Then the Walton specimen returned to the spotlight after having spent four decades nearly forgotten in a closet.

A $10,000 reward helped flush it out.

A legendary panel of experts declared it genuine.

Today, that legendary panel of experts will reassemble to take a look at the coin again at the Heritage Auctions booth.

The firm will put the coin on the block in April at the Central States convention in Schaumburg, Ill.

This year might be the last time I get to see the coin before it disappears into the hands of a new owner who might not be as generous with the coin as the heirs of George O. Walton have been these last 10 years.

I tip my hat to them. Thanks for the memories.

I hope you guys make a bundle come April when the coin is sold.
