Kid’s Zone makes Santa Clara special
The April 20-22 Santa Clara, Calif., Coin Expo shared numismatics with over 100 youth and families who came to learn about the hobby during National Coin Week.
A Kid’s Zone offered hands-on youth- and family-focused educational activities.
Local San Jose hobbyist and next generation youth outreach promoter Ernie Low worked with American Numismatic Association Past President Walter Ostromecki to ensure that the fun never stopped.
The Kid’s Zone was underwritten financially by the ANA, the Numismatic Association of Southern California, the Expo, the Cupertino Coin Club and Brian Fanton, BE’s Coins of Hiawatha, Iowa.
Visitors could obtain a free souvenir card with an attached ANA National Coin Week aluminum medal and a 2018-S Wisconsin quarter. All 200 2018 souvenir cards produced were distributed.
There was a 13-stop Money Treasure Hunt and Trivia Game where kids could find and build a starter U.S. coin collection featuring cents, nickels, a Mercury dime, ATB quarters and a Kennedy half dollar.
A World Currency-Country match challenge earned participants the beginnings of a foreign currency collection.
An America the Beautiful quarter trivia challenge earned contestants uncirculated ATB “P” or “S” mint quarters from 2010 to date.
It was a successful event for the sponsors. They signed up 31 new members.
